Ylang ylang essential oil is obtained through steam distillation from large yellow flowers of an evergreen tropical tree of a kananga of fragrant (ylang-ylang) – Cananga odorata (Lam.) Hook. (Annonaceae family – Annonaceae). Origin of the plant: Philippine Islands
Distribution of the plant
The plant is distributed on the islands of the Indian Ocean (Reunion, Molucca, Philippines, Madagascar, Sumatra, Java, Comoros), in Asia (mainly in culture).
Ylang ylang essential oil uses
Antiseptic, bactericidal, hypotensive, antidepressant, soothing, anti-inflammatory, tonic, spasmolytic, anticonvulsant.
Eliminates vascular spasms, lowers arterial pressure. Relieves headache of a spasmodic nature, and also associated with high blood pressure. Optimizes blood circulation, normalizes coronary blood flow, reduces the heart rate and aligns its rhythm. Has antisclerotic effect. Ylang ylang oil recipes
- Add to the bath 5-7 drops of essential oil, previously emulsified (mixed with 1/4 cup of milk, cream, whey, honey solution, sea or kitchen salt) or dissolved in alcohol (5 drops per 10 ml of 90% ethyl alcohol) .
- For massage – 5 drops of essential oil is added to 10 ml of base vegetable oil.
- In the aroma-lamp before going to bed for adults, add 5-7 drops.
- Aromatization of the children’s bedroom is carried out 40 minutes before bedtime with a mixture of 2 drops of ylang-ylang, 2 drops of lavender and 3 drops of lemon or orange essential oils.
- For a warm compress – 4-5 drops of ylang-ylang oil per 1 glass of warm water.
- For the enrichment of creams, tonics, shampoos, gels – 5 drops of essential oil per 5 ml of the base.
As a component of perfume compositions and fragrances for cosmetic products, especially oriental and floral directions. Sometimes used as a flavoring food, as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Ylang ylang oil blends well with following oils
Ylang ylang blends with oils of bergamot, lemongrass, rosewood, grapefruit, petitgrane, patchouli, jasmine, cassia, rose, orange, lavender, lemon, lemon balm, neroli, patchouli, santalum, citronella. The fragrance of ylang-ylang is quite strong and sweet. In order to make it less luscious and easier, it is necessary to add complementary lemon oil.
Side effects of ylang ylang oil
Do not administer to children under 12 years of age. Do not use during pregnancy. Oil can cause irritation to sensitive skin, it should not be used for dermatitis and inflamed skin. On the nervous system in general, the oil acts soothingly, although with prolonged use, the opposite effect is possible.
Oil is not recommended for hypotension. Overdose can cause nausea, headache, sometimes an allergic reaction. To avoid this, add 2 drops of lemon oil to 3 drops of ylang-ylang.
